7 Marathons Challenge - UK Details

Work is progressing a pace on the 7 Marathons Challenge and we are finalising the actual running routes for each venue....and the London leg looks like it is going to be a real gem.  With less than a year to go to the London Olympics in 2012 there is obviously a good synergy with Kevin's Marathon Challenge and so we decided to link the two events and base our route at his company's manufacturing operation at Edmonton in North West London, just 10km from the Olympic Park.

The London (UK) leg will be taking place on Sunday 2nd October and the start and finish of the marathon run will be at Old Ford Lock on the Lea Valley Navigation, right in the shadow of the Olympic Stadium.

Old Ford Locks is to the right hand side of the picture.

Kevin will then run along the picturesque banks and tow paths of the Lea Valley Navigation as far as the Lea Valley Athletics Centre where he will link up with the "Family Fun Day" being organised for the Edmonton Site which is located only a few hundred metres away.

The Lea Valley Athletics Stadium is a modern, state of the art centre with both indoor and outdoor facilities and we will do a number of laps of the 200m indoor track before heading back out onto the tow paths.

The route then heads south to Hackney Marshes where we will do a number of laps around the perimeter of the Football Centre.

Any finally, we will head back to the shadow of the Olympic Stadium to the finish line.

Old Ford Lock and the finish line !
Having walked the full length of the route I can safely say that it will be a superb finale to the week...considering that the run passes right through the heart of North West London it feels like a million miles from the bustle of the city.

We would like to thank British Waterways, Lea Valley Park, Lea Valley Athletics Centre and Greenwich Leisure Limited (the operators of the Hackney Marshes Centre) for their support in helping us put on the run.
